I am dismayed that our heritage is being destroyed by people who don't appreciate the significance of such heirlooms.
Destroying grave stones or stealing antique brass door handles does irreparable damage to our history. Furthermore, neglect of monuments such as the Voortrekker Monument does us all a disservice.
Monuments and antiques are like markers on our journey to our democracy.
They show us where we come from and they guide us in the direction we ought to be going. They tell a story about where we have been and they sometimes even remind us that we must not go back there.
They are all valuable treasures that must be protected by the nation and never vandalised.
