Gauteng sports leaders have started with preparations for the fourth edition of the South African Games in Bloemfontein in September.

Team Gauteng has been monopolising the event since it started in 1995 and MEC Barbara Creecy hopes her province will win the title for a record fourth time. Nomazwe Ntlokwana, the Gauteng department of sports, arts, recreation and culture, said the team will hold a training camp at the High Performance Centre (HPC).

"They will be conducting fitness and medical tests.

"In an effort to accommodate all the athletes, the first camp has been divided into four separate groups. This will enable the HPC the opportunity to focus and provide athletes with the best possible service."

In Bloemfontein, young boys and girls will take part in athletics, soccer, golf, table tennis, rugby, netball, hockey, goalball, cricket and swimming.
