An Italian government delegation has invited the KwaZulu-Natal government to send students to Italy for training in tourism.

Speaking to a delegation led by premier Sbu Ndebele on Tuesday, Italian Deputy International Trade Minister Mauro Agostini said: "We would like to train young people who have an interest in tourism. We are passionate about tourism and believe for any country to grow, tourism is the correct tool to use.

"This country is very important for us for long-term cooperation," he said.

Weziwe Thusi, the MEC for tourism, arts and culture, said she would contact the Italian government accepting the training offer.

Thusi said the tourism industry was already growing and was expected to grow faster during and after the 2010 World Cup.
