The Students' Representatives Council at the Walter Sisulu University has called on students to unite in tackling challenges within the institution.

This comes after some non-striking students at the College Street campus in East London were chased out of classes by toyi-toying students last week.

Lectures were stopped on Wednesday and Thursday following a dispute between the university management and students about unpaid university fees.

SRC secretary general Sandile Puti did not blame students who tried to attend classes.

"Maybe we failed to engage lecturers and students to show them the importance of the strike," added Puti.

He said students were still divided on the matter, but appealed to them to unite if they wanted attempts to tackle challenges to have an impact.

He also urged students to attend lectures as the agreement to sort out the registration had been reached.

However, he said students with special cases were still not registered because the committee whose job it was to oversee the process was experiencing "some hiccups".

"Certain terms and conditions are not clear to the committee.

"We need management to clarify them," he added.

The committee was established after a meeting between the management and SRC members last week.

Students who still owe fees will make arrangements with the committee on payment terms.

The committee would make recommendations to management on the way forward.
