Thabiso Makena, 15, left this week for a two-month trial with the Sao Paulo Soccer Academy in Brazil.
The talented all-rounder from Vlakfontein in Limpopo starts training today. This is his second visit to Sao Paulo.
Together with 11 other aspirants, Makena pipped 168 hopefuls in 2005.
He hopes to join Tyroane Sandows, the talented mid-fielder, who will spend a year at the academy.
It is a fantastic opportunity for the boys to move from their disadvantaged communities to attend school and soccer coaching at the Safa-Transnet School of Excellence with another youngster, Sifiso Mnguni.
Sifiso is being offered a place in the Premier Soccer League side, Silver Stars.
Entering its second year, Shona Khona invited six youngsters. who were selected at its December camp, to visit Brazil.
They are 13-year-old Dominic Mfusi from Krugersdorp, 16-year-old Moalusi Mathe from Thabanchu, 13-year-old Bongani Mocksin from Uitenhage (now at the Safa SSE), 15-year-old Jerry Nkwana from Mamelodi (also at the Safa SSE), 13-year-old Mzwandile Magqwaka from Gugulethu, and 14-year-old Lwando Bhebhetha from Uitenhage.
Six more boys will be selected at the next camp in May.
