The rivalry will be rekindled when the Bulls and the Cheetahs clash in the first round of the Super 14 campaign at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday.

Kickoff is at 7.10pm.

The encounter will be part of the seven games scheduled for the weekend.

Both sides were joint winners of the Absa Currie Cup last year and this time round they will be gunning for a win to improve their position on the Super 14 standings.

In their last meeting, the teams shared the trophy after playing to a draw in an exciting final before a packed crowd in Bloemfontein in October.

There is usually no love lost when the two teams lock horns and Saturday will be no exception.

The game is bound to produce fireworks and comes after the Bulls were beaten 17-3 by the Sharks in Durban in their opening game of the season, while the Cheetahs thrashed the Stormers 27-9 in Bloemfontein.

This weekend's fixtures: Friday: Chiefs v Hurricanes (Hamilton); Stormers v Western Force (Cape Town); Sharks v Waratahs (Durban).

Saturday: Crusaders v Reds (Christchurch); Brumbies v Blues (Canberra); Bulls v Cheetah (Loftus); Lions v Highlanders (Ellis Park).
