Terrible roads kill families

The state of the roads in the Eastern Cape is a cause for great concern.

The state of the roads in the Eastern Cape is a cause for great concern.

Whole families perish in accidents because of those roads. I am surprised that no one seems to be doing anything about it. The road between Port St Johns and Flagstaff is a known killer.

Potholes and stray animals contribute to accidents. Where are the herd boys and the herdsmen? Don't tell me they have rights too, because if that is the case then the animals' owners have to do something.

Travelling from Bizana to Mthatha to East London is a very dangerous trip, with all sorts of animals crossing the roads. The Eastern Cape government should be learning from its neighbour, KwaZulu-Natal, which repairs and upgrades its roads regularly.

KwaZulu-Natal roads are not perfect, but at least something is being done about them. How many more people must die before the Eastern Cape authorities wake up and smell the coffee?

The Wild Coast has the potential to rival and even beat KwaZulu-Natal's south coast in terms of tourism, but because of the condition of the roads, tourists take their money to the south coast.

The non-construction of the Wild Coast toll road was a blunder. The environmentalists put paid to the idea and most of them do not even live in the area. Those who do live in the area drive 4X4s.
