Rabson Mongwe has sold his Mvela Golden League (MGL) club, City Pillars, to Witbank businessman Mario Morfou in a deal believed to be worth R5 million.

But good news for Pillars' supporters in Limpopo is that the team will not relocate to Mpumalanga and will continue hosting their matches in NkowaNkowa, outside Tzaneen.

Though Mongwe pleaded ignorance about the deal, Morfou told Sowetan yesterday that he and his brother George had bought Mathaithai.

"It is true that we bought Pillars and we will try hard to ensure that we avoid relegation this term and plan for the new season," Morfou said.

"We are not going to make many changes at the team. We are going to relocate our offices from Tzaneen to Polokwane. But I can't comment about the players and technical staff because I'm still going to discuss this with my brother."

Morfou also said he was selling the status of his Vodacom Promotional League side, Mpumalanga Aces, formerly Dangerous Darkies. Pillars, who reached the Platinum playoffs last season, have not been impressive this term.

They are ninth on the MGL log after a 1-1 draw with Witbank Spurs on Sunday.
