ANC chief whip in the Gauteng legislature, Mandla Nkomfe, has been cleared of sexual harassment charges.

A task team established by the organisation's provincial working committee concluded after two weeks of investigation that "allegations of sexual harassment against comrade Mandla Nkomfe lack the substance and factual basis to formulate any charges".

Nkomfe was investigated after a female member of the Gauteng legislature accused him of sexual harassment last month.

She alleged that Nkomfe fondled her and told her that they should "have sex to advance her political career".

But the task team, which included senior members of the ANC, deputy speaker in the legislature Sophie Williams-De Bruyn, member of the national executive committee and Joburg mayor Amos Masondo, and member of the provincial executive committee of the ANC Women's league Doreen Senokoanyane, dismissed her claims.

ANC Gauteng general secretary David Makhura said: "All the affected parties have unreservedly and unconditionally accepted the findings of the task team and the decision of the provincial executive committee on this matter."

But the complainant said she was not satisfied with the decision.

"As a victim I am not happy about the decision. I am waiting for the party to contact me and I will consider my next step, but I am not going to fold my arms and accept the decision," she said.

The probe was conducted through verbal and written submissions by the complainant and interviews with witnesses.
