In a bid to empower youth from disadvantaged areas with artistic skills, the Deutsche Bank in Sandton is sending five young visual artists to London.
Buhle Hlatshwayo, Boderick Somana, Mahlatse Motedi, Thabo Mabusela and Xola Motai are jetting off to London tonight and are expected to be back on December 12. They will be accompanied by their teachers Ronnie Hlati and Edward Selematsela, and Colin Brown from Deutsche Bank.
Speaking to the Sowetan just before their departure the artists said: "We are so excited about the London trip. For the first time in our lives we will taste what it is like to be in a plane and to be out of South Africa.
Motedi believes their dedication and hard work has finally paid off.
"We have been working hard to improve our skills. The patience we had is paying off."
Hlati said they will be visiting art centres and galleries in and around London.
The young artists form part of the Little Arts School Outreach programme based in Bertrams, Johannesburg, that was founded by Dulcie Robinson and which has been supported by Deutsche Bank.
