Buhle Mthethwa has been voted in as president of the National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc) , replacing business magnate Patrice Motsepe.

Mthethwa, who was previously Nafcoc's general secretary, was voted in to lead the black organisation, which represented mostly small businesses, on Friday.

This is expected to fuel restlessness from the organisation's Gauteng members regarding the outcome of the proceedings. They claimed that the election was unconstitutional.

"Nafcoc president Patrice Motsepe has unconstitutionally called for elections to appoint a new council and president, a position he has indicated will be filled by Buhle Mthethwa," Gauteng president Vusi Nhlapo said on Thursday.

He said protesters were particularly concerned about the misappropriation of funds within the organisation.
