Boxing bungle

THE inevitable can no longer be delayed: Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula must remove all the existing board members of Boxing SA when he announces new appointments next month.

They have scored four own goals in their handling of the Dingaan Thobela dispute. First, Boxing SA chairman Peter Ngatane announced they would relicense Thobela only if he produced medical certificates declaring him fit and healthy.

They then sent Thobela to their own doctors for tests. He brought positive results and they relicensed him.

Then they issued a fight contract to a promoter, giving the go-ahead to stage the fight on August 29. But no one from the BSA had bothered to read the rules before relicensing him.

Then senior BSA board member Solly Selebi announced that Thobela's licence had been revoked after they had checked the rules. Enough is enough.
