Yes, it is the council's oversight committee's responsibility to make sure allocations are above board.
But, lo and behold, this does not stop Mokonyane from demanding answers - acting against those in the area of her jurisdiction. It is her duty to jealously guard the public purse.
The reaction from her office is nothing short of a kick in the teeth for the voters.
Pity the poor after another admission that the province has had to forego R358million from the Treasury because there were no plans on how to utilise the money.
Mokonyane should whip her mayors into line, serve the poor or bow out gracefully.
