Powerless

DEPUTY Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs Rejoice Mabudafhasi says she is alarmed at the number of people killed by lightning in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Addressing the World Meteorological Day celebrations this week Mabudafhasi said the South African Weather Services had the technological know-how to predict the weather but could not prevent the weather from becoming hazardous .

Really? Startling stuff!

This comes after another ignominious call by KwaZulu-Natal MEC for cooperative governance and traditional affairs Nomsa Dube on the national Department of Science and Technology to investigate the causes of lightning after seven people died in lightning strikes in January.

Surely we expect something better from these two esteemed individuals.
