Teenage girl arrested for killing classmate in Japan

A 16-year-old Japanese girl was arrested for allegedly killing a classmate in southern Japan, news report said Monday.

Police suspect her of beating the 15-year-old victim with a metal tool and strangled her in Sasebo city, on the southern island of Kyushu, the Kyodo News agency reported.

The victim was found early Sunday with her head and left hand dismembered in an apartment where the suspect was living alone, Kyodo said.

After the suspect's mother died in last year, her father remarried, Kyodo reported, citing acquaintances.

The suspect was scheduled to study abroad and had started to live in the apartment alone in April, the report said.
