Police in Vietnam use fishing nets to catch speeding bikers

Police in central Vietnam have started using fishing nets to stop speeding motorcycles, local media said Friday.

Authorities in Thanh Hoa City have caught 21 people since they started using the nets a month ago on people racing motorcycles, speeding or driving dangerously, the news website VietnamNet reported.

The technique is only used on people who do not stop when flagged down by police.

The net is thrown over the back wheel, forcing the vehicle to stop. So far, no one has been injured.

Informal motorcycle races on public roads, usually by schoolchildren or students, is widespread in Vietnam's larger cities, particularly after dark.Author: Marianne Brown
