Ferrero dies cycling in Cape

PIETRO Ferrero, heir to the multi-billion rand Italian company Ferrero, has died doing what he loved most - cycling in Cape Town.

The joint chief executive of the company best known for its decadent chocolates was cycling on Victoria Road between Llandudno and Camps Bay on Monday when he collapsed.

Police said it was suspected that he suffered a heart attack.

Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour chief executive Dave Bellairs said Ferrero, 47, had a passion for cycling and for the beautiful Mother City.

"He was an accomplished cyclist and was a very fit individual. Someone once said that they seldom saw him as relaxed as he was here riding around the Peninsula."

Ferrero competed in the gruelling Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour "more than twice" and finished in under three hours.
