Religious heckler tackles Obama

A heckler yelling “Barack Obama is the anti-Christ” disrupted a speech by the US president as he trawled for campaign funds in Los Angeles.

The bearded man jumped to his feet just as Obama was about to begin his campaign appeal, at the House of Blues theatre in West Hollywood, part of a three-day, five city swing designed to boost his 2012 election account.

The man shouted “(The) Christian God is the one and only true living God, the creator of Heaven and the Universe. I love Jesus. Jesus Christ is God. Jesus Christ is the son of God”.

Obama halted his remarks and a crowd started to boo the man as he was hauled out of the auditorium by police and Secret Service agents, yelling “Jesus Christ is God. Barack Obama is the anti-Christ!”

Presidential events are always accompanied by ultra-tight security, and attendees typically have to submit to screening by airport-style X-Ray machines and hand wands wielded by uniformed Secret Service agents and police.

But Obama occasionally faces hecklers at political events, sometimes complaining about his policies on issues like AIDS for instance.

The president has also attracted suspicion among some evangelical conspiracy theorists and false accusations that he is not a practicing Christian, or was not born in the United States.
