The Democratic Alliance on Thursday celebrated its re-elections in Cape Town with a “resounding majority” and Midvaal with an “increased majority” as a “stamp of approval for the DA’s governance record”.

The party’s federal executive chairperson‚ James Selfe‚ said: “Growth in support for the DA across South Africa as early results come into the IEC Results Operation Centre‚ bodes well for the DA’s electoral outcomes.

“Voters have endorsed the DA record of good governance in Cape Town in their numbers‚” he said‚ adding that the Midvall victory was “clear recognition of the DA’s successes in governing Midvaal to be the best-run Municipality in Gauteng”.

“We can also now confirm that the Kouga Municipality in the Eastern Cape and the Cape Agulhas Municipality in the Western Cape is projected to be an outright majority for the DA.”

He said “results so far show” also suggested “outright majorities in Bergrivier‚ Langeberg‚ and Overstrand returning the DA to govern”.

“It is clear that South African voters have identified strongly with the DA offer in Election 2016‚ and we thank every voter who came out yesterday to cast their ballots for the DA.”
