The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are on their way to becoming the official opposition in Limpopo and the North West provinces‚ Political analyst professor Tinyiko Maluleke has predicted.

With voting results by Thursday afternoon slowly painting a picture of which parties will take over countries big municipalities‚ Maluleke believes that the new kid on the block will unseat the Democratic Alliance (DA) as official opposition in the two provinces.

Julius Malema and his party has hoped to take over a number of major municipalities in his home province of Limpopo but after 5pm on Thursday election results are painting different story.

“In terms of overall votes‚ I think the EFF will become the official opposition in the Limpopo province and the North West province due to how the results are coming in at the moment‚” Masoga said.

He added that Malema being from the Limpopo province had played a major role in people voting for him‚ while in the North West the EFF leader has grown popular with the mining community.

Earlier on Thursday‚ EFF national chairperson Dali Mpofu had said his party has planned on winning just 10% of the Local government election votes‚ but things were looking not quite as rosy for the red berets‚ who were just under 8% after 4pm.

In Limpopo the ANC is sitting on 68% while the EFF have 17% and the Democratic Alliance has 8%.
