Soweto teacher held for rape

The 44-year-old man allegedly told two boys to stay behind after school on Wednesday as punishment for damaging school books, Captain Mponde Khoza said.

A teacher has been arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old pupil in Mapetla, Soweto, on Thursday, police said.

The 44-year-old man allegedly told two boys to stay behind after school on Wednesday as punishment for damaging school books, Captain Mponde Khoza said.

He ordered the boys to lie on the floor of a classroom, then let one boy go.

"He then ordered the remaining boy to take his pants off while the teacher was sitting half-naked on a chair."

He allegedly raped the boy and let him go home, Khoza said. The boy told his mother what had happened after he arrived home late. The teacher was arrested on Thursday morning. He would appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court on Friday, said Khoza.
