NGO launches business contest

A JOHANNESBURG-based NGO, Hub Johannesburg, has launched a year-long incubation programme for South African entrepreneurs and has called on business people to come up with environmental friendly business ideas that can contribute to sustainable development in communities.

The aim of the programme is to find local entrepreneurs who have business-based innovative solutions to problems facing communities and the environment.

The winners will get resources from the programme to sustain their businesses. The resources include seed capital and a monthly stipend for a year, adding up to R100,000 in total.

Hub Johannesburg director Greg Musiker said that the 2012/2013 programme specifically focuses on the green economy.

He said contestants must come up with business solutions that will improve the wellbeing of humans, bring social equity and significantly reduce environmental risks. Applications open on September 24.
