R200m Seshego mall provides jobs for local community

The centre, which will house 40 shops, 70% of which had already been "pre-let," would also boast a medical centre and banks.

RESIDENTS of Seshego near Polokwane in Limpopo are set to benefit from the construction of a new shopping centre in the area.

The centre is due to be opened in October next year, but the construction phase is expected to continue to provide job opportunities to local residents.

Following construction of the Mall of the North, City Centre and Makro Polokwane in recent years, the Moolman Group had partnered with local businessmen Jaco Nel and Sam Mabotja to develop the new mall. which is situated at the corner of Nelson Mandela and Polokwane Drive - the two main roads connecting Seshego and Polokwane.

Speaking during a sod-turning ceremony yesterday, Pieter Beyers of the Moolman Group said the shopping centre would be a community-based facility.

"The shopping centre will primarily cater for the needs of the Seshego community. It will also serve some outlying areas like Makgofe, Mabokelele and Mmotong," Beyers said.

He said the 15000-square metre shopping centre would be anchored by the 3500-square metre Shoprite Supermarket and 2500-square metre Cambridge Foods Supermarket.

Beyers added that his company had invested R200-million in the project.

The centre, which will house 40 shops, 70% of which had already been "pre-let," would also boast a medical centre and banks.

Developer Jannie Moolman said 400 jobs would be created during the construction phase while another 300 employment opportunities would be created after the official opening.

"A large amount of these jobs will be for the people of Seshego and surrounding areas," he said.

An excited Polokwane executive mayor Freddy Greaver said: "We need to work together for the sake of our people.

"They will have no need to go to Polokwane after construction of this facility."
