Congress of the People says it is “delighted” that the Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment Bill (FICA) has been signed into law‚ adding that there is now no place to hide for corrupt syndicates guilty of money laundering and financial terrorism.

“This is a step in the right direction. Even though Mr Jacob Zuma tried every trick in the book to delay and frustrate the signing of the Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment (FICA) bill into law‚ he finally signed it‚” COPE spokesman Dennis Bloem said.

He added that money laundering and financial terrorism were some of the biggest threats to the economy.

“Now that the bill is signed‚ there is no place to hide for these corrupt syndicates.

“Dodgy characters must now know that from now on there will be an increased scrutiny of bank accounts. Transparency will be the order of the day‚” Bloem said.

“President Zuma was sitting with this bill since June 2016 and he decided to send it back to Parliament because his cronies were not happy with the bill. However‚ Parliament in its wisdom passed it again in November last year‚” he added
