Sisulu’s absence was not to avoid being seen with Zuma

Minister of Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu’s absence from the launch of Kwazulu-Natal’s biggest social housing project was not to avoid being seen with President Jacob Zuma‚ her ministry says.

It said it had noted with concern media reports and media posts suggesting that this was the case after she did not attend Saturday’s launch in Msunduzi‚ Pietermaritzburg‚ which was the second part of the programme.

“The Ministry wants to put it on record that the Minister took part as planned on Part One of the programme‚ which included handing over housing units and unveiling the plaque. The Minister then rushed to the airport to travel to Johannesburg to attend the memorial service of her uncle‚ the late Mr Ahmed Kathrada‚” Sisulu’s office said in a statement.
