DA wants court to interdict Zuma reshuffle

The Democratic Alliance will later this afternoon file an urgent application at the Western Cape High Court in a bid to prevent President Jacob Zuma’s new cabinet ministers being sworn in.

This comes as Zuma made 20 changes to his cabinet late Thursday night.

Some ministers have been axed‚ while others have moved to new portfolios. The new ministers and deputy ministers are due to be sworn in this evening.

Zuma released a statement saying that he had decided to make changes to the National Executive in order to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

“Last night’s decision by Jacob Zuma to fire Finance Minister‚ Pravin Gordhan‚ his Deputy‚ Mcebisi Jonas‚ and a host of Members of the Executive – replacing them with compromised and co-opted individuals – has completed his self-serving project of State Capture. We must act now‚ as our country and our shared future depends on it.

“Therefore‚ the Democratic Alliance has today taken a decision to institute urgent legal action to stop this assault on our Constitution and our people. We will this afternoon file papers in the Western Cape High Court seeking an urgent interdict to halt the swearing in of Jacob Zuma’s compromised cabinet members‚ and the implementation of his reshuffle‚ which is set to take place at 18h00 this evening‚” the party said in a statement.

Mbalula 'could be good for police'Police unions and security experts are optimistic about the appointment of Fikile Mbalula as Police Minister. 

The opposition said Zuma decision has consequences for the future of South Africa and therefore should be removed from office.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane stated that he will lead a march to the ANC’s headquarters at Luthuli House on 7 April‚ calling on the ANC to support our Motion of No Confidence in Zuma.

The party also called on political parties‚ NGOs‚ civil society to join them.
