Three suspects from Emalahleni Municipality have been arrested for fraud and money laundering to the value of R1.6 million.
They are a Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC)‚ aged 49‚ a former ward councillor‚ 44‚ and a member of a co-operative‚ 39.
“It is alleged that in 2013 the suspects embezzled money from a co-operative. It is further alleged that farmers were hiring the farms from the co-operative and the suspects took the money for themselves‚” police said.
The three suspects will be appearing in court today in Witbank. A fourth suspect is being sought.
