Durban to be Africa’s Davos when WEF comes to town in May

Durban will play host to the World Economic Forum Africa this year.

Sihle Zikalala‚ MEC for economic development‚ tourism and environmental affairs in Kwazulu-Natal‚ announced on Monday morning that the massive event will be hosted in the city from May 3 to 5.

Zikalala said his department had lobbied for WEF Africa to come to Durban “precisely because of its immense potential to enhance the brand equity” both of the city and the province.

It is estimated that direct impact of hosting the event will be at least R64-million with a total impact of over R155-million.

The forum will see regional and global leaders from business‚ government and civil society discuss solutions to create economic opportunities for the continent.
