Western Cape police found a large cache of mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of about R100‚000 at a petrol filling station in Gugulethu on Saturday afternoon.

The haul was discovered hidden in a storeroom during a search by members of the Stabilisation Unit who were acting on information about possible drug-related activities at the petrol station.

“The owner of the filling station‚ a 47-year-old female and seven male suspects aged between 23 and 57 were arrested and are expected to make a court appearance in Philippi on Monday‚” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andrè Traut.

The 2‚000 mandrax tablets together with a substantial amount of cash were confiscated‚ he said.
