A driver lost control of his taxi‚ killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring 11 others on Friday when his vehicle crashed into swings in a park in Pinetown‚ KwaZulu-Natal.

The vehicle also struck two pedestrians.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the boy was found lying on the side of the road.

"Paramedics assessed the young boy and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Paramedics immediately began CPR and initiated advanced life support interventions. Unfortunately‚ after some time‚ no vital signs returned and the child was declared dead on the scene.

"A second pedestrian was found on scene‚ along with 10 passengers from the taxi. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that the injuries sustained ranged from minor to moderate‚" said Meiring.

The patients were treated and then taken to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

This accident comes after four children were killed on Wednesday on their way to school when the taxi in which they were travelling collided with a bus.
