Bloodied prosthetic ear tells of tragic end for Durban taxi boss

Security officials responded to a bizarre shooting where they found a car with a dead man in the driver seat and another man sitting on top of him in Verulam‚ north of Durban‚ on Wednesday.

Reaction Unit South Africa spokesperson Prem Balram said that the security firm’s control room received strange reports about the shooting shortly after 10am.

“Members were called out to the Oakford Road after the receiving multiple calls that a man was seen driving a car at high speed whilst seated on top of a deceased body‚” he said.

“The small built passenger explained that he could not move the deceased who weighs in excess of 140kg.”

Balram said that a gunman had opened fire on the car moments before.

“He said a lone gunman armed with a 9mm pistol opened fire on them through the left front passenger window. The suspect then fled‚” he said.

“The passenger then sat on top of his bleeding friend and drove for several kilometres towards the Osindsweni Hospital. He came to a stop after the front tyre was damaged.

“A man was found on the driver’s seat with a bullet wound to his head. Paramedics confirmed that the man was deceased. His prosthetic ear was found on the rear seat‚” he said.

Balram said the passenger informed them that the dead man was a taxi boss.
