A man accused of wrongfully removing his three children is set to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s court on Thursday.

The formal bail application was rolled over from Wednesday to Thursday morning.

Abdul Gaffar Tarmahomed‚ a British national‚ allegedly took the children to Mozambique in August last year against a high court order that placed the children under the care of their mother‚ Somiya Basar.

Tarmahomed has been charged with contempt of court for wrongful removal of children.

The family who previously resided in Mozambique had been living in South Africa on permits since 2014.

Basar‚ 32‚ said it has been eight months since she last saw her children after Tarmahomed allegedly snatched them from their family home in Douglasdale‚ in the north of Johannesburg‚ under the pretext of spending time with them.

The children were allegedly taken through the Lebombo border post into Mozambique‚ with no proper parental consent from Basar.

Basar said her son had turned 11 years on Tuesday but alleged she was unable to speak to him as the paternal family members with whom the children were residing had denied her communication with them.
