Ethekwini tows away buses blocking roads

A bus blockade which gridlocked large parts of the city on Friday morning was linked to national mass action‚ the Ethekwini Municipality said.

According to a statement issued on Friday‚ the city was working with bus operator Tansnet to remove the busses parked on main arterial routes around the city.

“The buses were parked by bus drivers this morning after leaving the depot and the reason for this is suspected to be linked to the national mass action taking place today. The affected roads include Umgeni Road‚ M4 North and South and the N2 near Spaghetti Junction‚” the council said in a statement.

The municipality said that they were working to “to identify the culprits and take the necessary disciplinary action“.

“Metro Police and City Fleet are currently towing the buses to the depot. The M4 North has since been reopened. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes while these buses are being towed away from blockaded roads‚” it read.
