A primary school was burned down in the early hours of Thursday in Vuwani‚ Limpopo in renewed demarcation protests in the area.
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Moepe confirmed that Tshirhunzani primary school in Vyeboom‚ Vuwani had been torched.
“We can confirm that books and a few possessions were burned by unknown suspects this morning. The good news is that there were no learners at the scene [as] it is in the middle of school holidays. The police are monitoring the scene and there is calm in the community. It is totally quiet.”
Basic education department spokesman Elijah Mhlanga earlier broke news of the incident in a Twitter post.
