Police fire rubber bullets in Reiger Park‚ five injured

Five people have been injured after police fired rubber bullets to disperse protesters in Reiger Park in Boksburg in Gauteng.

“Currently‚ what is taking place is protesters are making their way to the Civic Centre in Boksburg‚” said Ekurhuleni Metro Police spokesman Koledi Mokheseng.

“That illegal march follows a protest that started in the early hours of the morning.”

He said protesters had to be subdued after targeting police and the house of a ward councillor. He could not say whether the councillor was home at the time.

“Five protesters sustained slight injuries and were taken to Tambo Memorial Hospital … after rubber bullets were used to disperse the unruly crowd. They were aggressive and they were stoning us as the law enforcers‚ passersby and motorists.”
