Children's entertainment area at Cresta closed after accident on one of its rides

Johannesburg’s Cresta Shopping Centre has launched an investigation into what caused its merry-go-round to crash and fall over mid-ride on Saturday morning with four children on it.

Initial reports suggested the children sustained injuries‚ but the shopping centre has since confirmed that none of the four children on the ride were injured.

“Cresta Shopping Centre Management responded to the incident within minutes to offer immediate assistance to the four children on the ride and the families and shoppers who were in the area at the time. We can confidently report that all four children were rushed to the medical suite for professional evaluation following the incident and none of them sustained any injuries‚” the centre said in a statement.

The centre confirmed an investigation was under way to determine the cause of the accident.

“The safety of our shoppers is a high priority and of utmost importance to us; as a result‚ the area‚ which includes the bowling area‚ merry-go-round and arcade games has been closed off indefinitely‚ pending the investigation‚” the statement said.
