Life for raping niece and another woman

A Mount Fletcher rapist has been sentenced to life imprisonment and an additional 40 years behind bars for raping, assaulting and kidnapping two young women on the same day last year.

Dalumzi Ndzila, 25, was convicted and sentenced by the Mount Fletcher Regional Court on Tuesday to life imprisonment for raping his 18-year-old niece and 20 years for raping a 20-year-old woman, five years for each of the two counts of kidnapping and five years for each of the two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Luxolo Tyali yesterday said they welcomed the sentences.

"We hope that it will deter other would-be rapists," Tyali said.

Ndzila reportedly accosted his niece who was walking alone in a bushy area from his home in Ndingeni village on June 18 last year.

"He choked the young woman and forced her to take her clothes off and raped her next to a footpath. When he heard that there were some people approaching, he took her further into the bushes and raped her again," said Tyali.

However, the approaching group, who included Ndzila's mother, noticed the clothes and went into the bush to investigate.

"They found him in the act."

As he fled he came across the 20-year-old whom he dragged into bushes and raped once.
