Three bust at traffic testing station for fraud and corruption

Three people have been bust for allegedly providing roadworthy certificates for un-roadworthy vehicles and pocketing the proceeds.

The three suspects – an examiner‚ his assistant and a foreign national – were arrested during a raid on a traffic testing station in George in the Western Cape by members of the Hawks Anti-Corruption Unit.

“The trio have been on the unit’s radar for a while following allegations of fraud and corruption‚ apparently committed at TJ’S testing station in George.

“It is alleged that the suspects were working in cahoots to process road worthy certificates for un-roadworthy vehicles‚ unduly pocketing the proceeds in the process‚” said Hawks spokesman Captain Lloyd Ramovha.

The provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in the Western Cape‚ Brigadier‚ Mzwandile Ndlovu‚ welcomed the arrests.

“It is our mandate to free society from the clutches of corruption. We shall continue to do so without fear‚ favour or prejudice‚” he said

The suspects are expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on charges relating to fraud and corruption.
