SAPS dismisses 66 police officers in Gauteng

The South African Police Service in Gauteng has dismissed 66 officers for their involvement in criminal activities this year.

 “Out of the total dismissals‚ 17 of the police officers were involved in corruption‚ 6 in robberies and others for serious crimes including aiding prisoners to escape‚ and rape‚” said police spokesman Lungelo Dlamini in a statement.

Dlamini said that the dismissals were carried out between April and September as part of efforts to end corruption.

 A majority of the officers were implicated in corruption‚ robbery‚ theft and attempted murder cases among other crimes.
