When a six-year-old girl was tossed from the back seat of a car during a hijacking‚ she may have thought it was a game.

This is the view of the child’s caretaker‚ who was collecting her from her home to take her to pre-school‚ when the hijacking took place last week.

The man said he was being held at gunpoint when one of his attackers realised the girl was on back seat and pulled her out‚ before driving off.

“Fortunately I was close to her so I managed to catch her‚” said her caretaker‚ who has asked not to be named and regards himself her spiritual father.

The girl was not hurt‚ he said. “She’s fine. She never even knew what was happening. She thought maybe we were playing a game. She thought maybe they were people from church coming to get the car.”

Mduduzi Ntshalintshali‚ 33‚ and Xolani Mwelase‚ 31‚ were arrested on Monday and appeared in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago‚ Ekurhuleni’s metro police spokesperson‚ said the two men were arrested in Midrand on Allandale Road‚ after the vehicle’s tracking device revealed their location.

The hijacking took place in Norkem Park‚ a northern suburb of Kempton Park‚ on Friday‚ September 30.

The men‚ who were turned in at Rabie Ridge police station in Tembisa‚ face charges relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and the possession of a hijacked vehicle.

The girl’s caretaker says he is recovering from the trauma of the incident.

“I’m okay. My life depends on God so I fear nothing.”

Norkem Park police station spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme said Ntshalintshali and Mwelase are expected to apply for bail on October 19.
