‘Firepool Sweaty Nhleko hit with Twitter barbs over his warning to students

Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko is going to find it hard to shake off his infamous reputation as the man who tried to convince the nation a swimming pool is a security feature.

Nhleko was trending on social media on Friday afternoon – for all the wrong reasons – after calling for restraint by police and students as violent clashes continued on university campuses around the country.

He was speaking after a justice‚ crime prevention and security cluster meeting with student leaders in Johannesburg. “Government recognises and respects the right to freedom of expression. We would‚ however‚ like to warn all protesters that section 16(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa does not extend this right to incitement of imminent violence‚” he said.

Twitter responded to the news with stinging reminders about his explanation‚ while sweating profusely‚ in 2015 on television about how the swimming pool at Nkandla‚ home of President Jacob Zuma‚ was actually a fire-fighting tool and security feature.

Twitter users were particularly scathing. These are some of the comments.

BornSA: “I don’t trust Nhleko since the Nkandla report!!!#Fees2017”

Solmad–Solomon ?chipped in with: “I’ll never take anything serious said by Nhleko‚ he who makes stupid bioskops for his Nkandla handler about swimming pools as firepools.”

“#ThingsIwillNeverForget when Nathi Nhleko told south africans that a swimmin pool is a fire pool‚” said Commissar Andrew.

Justice4All asked: “How did Nathi ‘Minister Sweaty’ Nhleko get to be a police minister? Someone please explain to me.”
