South African Broadcasting heavyweight Hlaudi Motsoeneng is reported to be under “immense emotional strain“.

That’s according to his lawyer Zola Majavu in a letter sent to the SABC board demanding an explanation about his role at the state broadcaster.

Calls are growing louder for the controversial chief operating officer to resign after a damning legal blow from the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein which rejected his bid to appeal against an earlier court ruling that found his appointment to the post should be set aside.

The Times reported on Thursday that despite the court ruling‚ the SABC board was considering a controversial proposal that could lead to his reappointment as acting COO. The proposal flies in the face of a damning public protector’s report and court rulings against Motsoeneng.

The SABC reported on the contents of Majavu’s letter on Thursday.

“I made it clear that these speculations put my client under immense emotional strain and it will be best for everybody if there is certainty and clarity.

“People are speculating about your fate. I have not received any correspondence from the SABC and its unfair.” — TMG Digital
