One person was killed and three people critically injured in a head-on collision between two light motor vehicles on the R400 in Hartebeespoort on Saturday evening‚ ER24 said.

ER24 paramedics‚ along with other services‚ arrived on the scene and found both light motor vehicles on the side of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision‚ said ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring.

“On inspection‚ paramedics found the body of a man lying inside one of the vehicles. Unfortunately‚ the man had already succumbed to his multiple‚ fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.

“On inspection of the second vehicle‚ paramedics found the bodies of a man‚ woman and girl‚ believed to be 13 years old. All three patients were found trapped and in a critical condition‚” Meiring said.

He said rescue workers had to use jaws-of-life equipment to carefully free and extricate the three injured. Once freed‚ paramedics treated the injured and provided all three with numerous advanced life support interventions.

“The woman was later airlifted by a private medical helicopter while the man and girl were transported by ambulance to a hospital in Krugersdorp.”
