Police nab would-be robbers‚ wound two in shootout

Two men were wounded during a shootout between the police and alleged robbers at the Buccleugh interchange north of Johannesburg on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said the police had received a tip of about men who were going to commit a robbery.

“When they [suspects] realised the police were following them‚ they started shooting at the police. The police retaliated.

“Two suspects were injured and two firearms were recovered. The car [the suspects were travelling in] was found to be stolen‚” Makhubela said.

When TMG Digital spoke to Makhubela‚ he was on his way to the scene. He said he did not have further details.
