“During a wedding ceremony‚ there was a stick-fighting which turned bloody. While the victim‚ Mbuyiseni Gazu‚ 25‚ was playing a stick fight with the suspect‚ it is alleged that the suspect was defeated and took his unlicensed firearm and shot the victim to his forehead‚” said Zwane

“The victim was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries. Enraged community members allegedly caught the suspect and assaulted him to death. The killer suspect was identified as Thabiso Mlotshwa‚ 25‚ from the same area.”

Two cases of murder were opened for investigation. An unlicensed 9mm pistol with four live rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene and will undergo ballistic tests to establish if it is the firearm that allegedly killed Gazu.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner‚ Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni‚ condemned the killings and urged people not to take the law into their own hands.

“The community must learn to let the police to do their job in investigating and apprehending culprits and sending them for prosecution. We need to work together in the fight against crime. Community can apprehend suspects and hand them over to the police for further investigation. Taking law into your own hands amounts to crime and it is punishable‚” she said.
