President Jacob Zuma is expected to arrive in East London on Thursday night‚ in preparation for the African National Congress’ (ANC) election campaign in Buffalo City.
The ANC’s Dr WB Rubusana region elections coordinator‚ Sinthemba Mashalaba‚ confirmed that “the President will be here later tonight“.
“His election programme starts at 10am in Duncan Village tomorrow‚ before visiting other areas within the region‚” said Mashalaba.
Zuma is not the only senior ANC figure in the province – treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize‚ Minister in the Presidency Jeff Radebe arrived on Wednesday.
ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said Mkhize will be visiting Sarah Baartman‚ and later move to the Alfred Nzo region where a regional Siyanqoba – which means “we will conquer” — rally will be held on Friday.
Mabuyane said: “The president will then move to Port Elizabeth to address the Nelson Mandela region’s Siyanqoba rally.”
He said the regional Siyanqoba rallies are a build-up to the party’s provincial rally to be held at the East London stadium next Sunday.
“The provincial Siyanqoba next Sunday will run concurrently with the national one to be held in Bloemfontein. The national event will be broadcast live at the East London rally‚” said Mabuyane. – TMG Digital/Daily Dispatch
