Despite being granted bail in an urgent court application‚ Ibrahim Patel‚ who was arrested in a anti-police terror raid‚ has still not been released.

Karen Jayes of CAGE – an organisation which assists those suspected of terrorism and their families — told The Times exclusively that Patel had not been released from Krugersdorp police station.

He had been held at the police station after he and his sister‚ Fatima‚ were arrested over the weekend on charges of the illegal possession of ammunition and explosives.

They were arrested as police also apprehended identical twins Brandon-Lee and Tony-Lee Thulsie at their homes in Newclare and Florida outside Johannesburg on terrorism-related charges.

Jayes said at this point it was not known why Ibrahim Patel had not been released.

“His sister was released on R5000 bail after the court order was granted‚” she said.

“His lawyers have been working frantically throughout the night to get him out‚ but police are still defying the order.

“This is clearly contempt of court.”

The Patels are to appear in the Kagiso Magistrates court on Monday while the Thulsies will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates court on Tuesday.
