Sweet-toothed suspects due in court over alleged chocolate theft

Two people are due in Johannesburg courts on Monday after cops nabbed them with stolen chocolates worth thousands of rand.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said that the chocolates were discovered at a house in Lenasia on Saturday night.

“The chocolates were taken from a truck belonging to Nestlé‚ that was hijacked in Kempton Park on Thursday‚ and discovered abandoned outside the Killarney Mall on Friday‚ without its cargo.

“One person was arrested in Lenasia and a [second] suspect [was] arrested at a warehouse in Kew‚ where some more chocolates were found‚” Minnaar said.

In the Kew warehouse a machine was found‚ apparently used for changing the expiry dates on the labels of chocolates and cans of Red Bull. Cans of the energy drink were also found in the warehouse.

The two people are expected to appear at the Lenasia and Wynberg Magistrate’s Courts on Monday‚ on charges relating to hijacking and the possession of stolen goods.
