De Lille kicks off election campaign

Cape Town mayor Patricia De Lille launched her official municipal elections campaign poster outside the iconic City Hall on Wednesday.

She was flanked by councillors‚ the party’s national spokesman Phumzile van Damme and a handful of supporters dressed in blue.

De Lille is‚ for now‚ the only known mayoral candidate vying for power in the city. Other parties are yet to announce their candidates.

Hers is also the first political party poster to go up. De Lille said her campaign was going well and that city residents had asked her about housing‚ crime and jobs.

“People are complaining about the places [townships] not being cleaned and then I have to explain to them that we do clean but the challenge is to keep it clean‚” she said.
