Getting a license to sell beer gets easier after launch of National Liquor Authority walk-in centre

A new National Liquor Authority (NLA) Walk-in Centre and first in-house developed online Case Management System, launched by the Department of Trade and Industry on Tuesday, is set to improve customer service and promote compliance.

The centre, which is in its first-phase of implementation, will provide solutions to challenges experienced by clients during their liquor license application process.

NLA Chief Director Prea Ramdhuny on Tuesday said the centre will offer both face-to-face interaction and an online web-based Case Management System (CMS) application to its customers.

“The Walk-in Centre will be manned by expert NLA staff that will assist client’s file-in registrations, provide information on licensing requirements and assist with any enquiries regarding the NLA,” said Ramdhuny.

Once the walk-in process is complete, clients will be able to track the status of their applications online. Those opting for the web-based CMS will be able to enjoy a simple and efficient process from the comfort of their homes and offices.

Ramdhuny said that Phase-1 will only deal with new applications.

“I think with this initiative we have demonstrated appreciation for our clientele, the onus now rests with them to ensure that they furnish us with all the required documentation when submitting applications to guarantee a smooth process,” she added.

Acting Deputy Director-General of Consumer and Corporate Regulation at the dti, MacDonald Netshitenzhe, said: “It is important that we bring together other enforcement on board in execution of mandate of the NLA”.

Netshitenzhe joined Ramdhuny in officially opening the centre at the dti Campus in Pretoria. The second phase of the roll-out will focus on automation of renewals, relocations and transfers.
